Repeated Horizontal Jumping is a Feasible Exercise Countermeasure for Microgravity

چکیده
Astronauts who spend prolonged time in microgravity on the International Space Station can experience a significant reduction physical fitness. Jumping exercises represent potential solution to this problem as European Agency has demonstrated that deconditioning effect of long-term bed-rest be countered with around four minutes per day jumping. The purpose study was evaluate if repeated jumping is possible and transmission impact forces vibration aircraft minimised. Five subjects performed custom jump sled both during parabolic flight campaign normal gravitational conditions. Forces expressed by user transmitted were quantified using bespoke instrumentation system. These results show, for first time, horizontal microgravity, force minimised supine sled. peak effective ground reaction experienced sensitive style used resistance employed. open door next generation exercise countermeasures deep space exploration. In particular, we have qualified High Frequency Impulse Microgravity (HIFIm) device Technology Readiness Level 6 making it leading candidate replace Advanced Resistive Exercise Device (ARED) which been service since 2009.

Dobutamine as a countermeasure for reduced exercise performance of rats exposed to simulated microgravity.
Post-spaceflight results and findings from humans and rodents after conditions of bed rest or simulated microgravity indicate maximum exercise performance is significantly compromised. However, the chronic administration of dobutamine (a synthetic adrenomimetic) to humans in relevant experiments improves exercise performance by mechanisms that prevent the decline in peak O2 consumption (VO2peak...
متن کاملEndurance Exercise as a Countermeasure for Aging
OBJECTIVE We determined whether reduced insulin sensitivity, mitochondrial dysfunction, and other age-related dysfunctions are inevitable consequences of aging or secondary to physical inactivity. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS Insulin sensitivity was measured by hyperinsulinemic-euglycemic clamp and ATP production in mitochondria isolated from vastus lateralis biopsies of 42 healthy sedentary a...
متن کاملHypergravity resistance exercise: the use of artificial gravity as potential countermeasure to microgravity.
The aims of this study were to 1) determine if hypergravity (HG) squats can produce foot forces similar to those measured during 10-repetition maximum (10RM) squats using weights under normal 1-G(z) condition, and 2) compare the kinematics (duration and goniometry) and EMG activities of selected joints and muscles between 10RM and HG squats of similar total foot forces. Eight men and six women ...

متن کاملThrowing and jumping for maximum horizontal range
Optimum projection angles for achieving maximum horizontal range in throwing and jumping events are considerably less than 45°. This unexpected result arises because an athlete can generate a greater projection velocity at low projection angles than at high angles. The range of a projectile is strongly dependent on projection speed and so the optimum projection angle is biased towards low proje...
